Live, archive, events and settings in one window

Everything on this page works today with Hikvision, HiWatch and Xiongmai devices. ONVIF cameras get live view.

Live

Watchpost shows the cameras of a site in one grid and groups devices by site in the sidebar. Open a tile to watch one camera full size.

  • Sound from one channel at a time, with volume on the tile
  • Main or extra stream, per tile or for the whole grid
  • Snapshots go to a folder you choose
  • If RTSP is off on a Xiongmai device, the app switches to DVRIP by itself
  • Zoom, focus and pan-tilt from a panel on the camera screen, for Xiongmai and ONVIF cameras

Map

Cameras and recorder channels sit on a map next to the grid. Click a pin to see its live picture, park up to four pictures beside the map, or jump to the archive of that camera.

  • A heading and an angle draw the sector a camera covers
  • Every channel of a recorder can have its own pin
  • The same map works on iPhone and iPad, with a sheet instead of a popover
  • The Devices screen has its own map, with a dot for each address that answers

Archive

A day of recordings sits on one timeline: recordings in blue, motion in yellow. The player runs on your machine, so pause, frame step and speed respond at once.

  • A calendar marks the days that have recordings
  • Export any time range to MP4: the video is not re-encoded, G.711 sound becomes AAC
  • The status bar shows the disks, free space, and the oldest and newest recording
  • Each clip shows its own download progress

Events

The app subscribes to alarms from the device and keeps them in a feed. On a Mac they also arrive as system notifications.

  • One click on an event opens that moment in the archive
  • An event from a camera opens the recording on the recorder that stores it
  • Detection lives in the device settings: sensitivity, zones, schedule, reactions

Settings

Each device gets its own settings window, with native forms for what that device supports. A section the device does not support stays hidden.

  • Before a write you see every change as "was" and "will be"
  • Watchpost backs up a block before it writes to it
  • Encoding, recording schedule, image, OSD and privacy masks, network, recorder IP channels
  • On a Mac: configuration snapshots you can compare
